Reishi
I get pretty jazzed up about mushrooms. I was recently gifted this massive beautiful medicinal mushroom from a soul sister at Wild Mountain Cooperative during my travels to Maine this summer. If you are not familiar with Reishi let me introduce you!
Reishi is popular for her astounding health benefits. Though not common for culinary use due to her bitter taste and tough, woody texture, she makes for a wonderful medicinal tea. Sometimes I even mix her with Chaga to get a real powerhouse. See my Blog on Chaga Mushroom Tea for more info.
Reishi Mushroom Health Benefits:
Boosts the immune system
Soothes a person with altitude sickness and trouble in sleeping
Aids patients suffering from stress and fatigue
Improves agility in the elderly
Helps improve sleep habits
How To Make Reishi Tea:
Like everything else in the world there are multiple ways to go about making things and Reishi Tea is no different. But here is what I have been enjoying lately.
Step 1: Let Mushroom Dry Out
Step 2: Slice
Step 3: Grind
Step 4: Steep for 5-7 minutes
Step 5: Enjoy with hemp milk to compliment that Earthy flavor and honey to make it a tasty treat
Another great option: After slicing the Reish. Boil water and add a slice of Reishi and leave it to boil for at least 15 minutes.
